The property has a long history and the house, where the tenant farmers used to live, has been sympathetically restored.
The photographs in this section are of the part of the house which is listed as a historic monument. This part is not rented out, but can be visited upon request.
La Bastida’s history is documented back to 1314, when Ramon Bastida made a declaration on the occasion of the visit of Bishop Guillem de Vilamarí.
Later on, the fortified house belonged to the knights of the Bret lineage. In 1463, during the conflicts of the Catalan Civil War, the Abbot of Banyoles, Francesc Xetmar, was held captive at la Bastida. He was freed by Captain Juan Hurtado de Mendoza with a ransom of 200 florins, paid by the Banyoles Town Commune.
Currently, La Bastida forms part of the El Pla de l'Estany Historic Heritage Site. A number of corners of the house have been conserved that shed light on its history. The outer door has a three-part lintel with sculpted jambs in the Baroque style. The jambs, in relief, form a volute and have a lion’s paw at their base.
The inner patio conserves a cistern with a squared rim in Girona stone. The rim has neoclassical mouldings and ironwork figurative elements in the form of a serpent can be observed.
A staircase with stairs in worked stone, whose mouldings appear to date back to the eighteenth century, leads to the first floor, where one can find the chapel, with Rococo-style paintings.
